Lauren Kirk - Employee Spotlight

Continuing our employee spotlight series with our Event Coordinator, Lauren Kirk.

How long have you worked at Event Management Direct?

I started working for Event Management Direct in November of 2019.

What do you do at Event Management Direct and in what circumstances would I come to you for something?

I am one of the Event Coordinators at Event Management Direct. My role is to assist our clients with the planning and management of their conferences. This can include a variety of tasks from the social aspects of a conference to venue, accommodation and delegate management.

What’s one thing you’re learning now, and why is it important?

Something that we have all had to learn over the past year is the planning, organisation and management of virtual events. This is something that I have not done before and has been challenging at times but I am really starting to enjoy the various aspects that are involved. I feel this will be something that will continue even when we are able to arrange face to face events again, as many people now enjoy the ease of attending virtual events!

What led you to this career?

I have always enjoyed entertaining and arranging days out for the people I love. When I realised I could do it as a career it was a no – brainer! I like the idea that by working in events you are creating memories for people – whether it be educational or otherwise.

What would we most likely find you doing on the weekend?

I love socialising and spending time with my friends and family in my free time. I particularly enjoy going to concerts, gigs or festivals and have always had a passion for the music industry. I also love being active and exercising whenever I can!

When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?

I always wanted to be a Disney Princess and part of me is still waiting for that to happen!

Are you a dog person or a cat person (or neither)?

I have always had cats and love them but would also love to have a dog one day!

What’s your favorite sport to watch and which team do you root for?

One of my favourite things to do at the weekend is to catch up on the Motorcross or Supercross from the week before! I also spend a lot of Sundays at the tracks near where I live.

What’s your favorite TV show—the one you’re always watching on repeat?

Any Louis Theroux documentary – I’ve watched them all repeatedly. I’m also known by my family to always having Friends playing in the background!

What’s the top destination on your must-visit list?

There are so many places I would like to visit but I have always wanted to go to Belize and stay in one of the tree houses! I would also love to do one of the Jungle safaris and lots of snorkelling!
